Marble is becoming an increasingly popular material to make furniture. A case in point is the L-Chair Atus designed by Miami-based firm Bea Pernia for Arca. It is made of solid wood resting on a carved marble block found in the Portugal quarries.

This chair is part of Bea’s new furniture collection that aims to merge materials, such as stone and wood into stunning pieces. Each chair is one-of-a-kind being crafted from a unique piece of rock. It sports unique patterns and organic forms. She has used wood to keep the chair design naturalistic.

It’s really impressive how the wooden seating is attached to the marble block, giving it a classically rustic vibe. Owing to the gigantic size and unique patterns, the L-Chair Atus will become a statement piece of art in any space.

If you believe me, I would say it is more like a sculptural piece rather than a functional chair. It is so expensive that it will burn a big hole in your pocket – but the price is high due to the materials used for its construction. I assume it would not be comfortable but rather a hard piece to sit on without a cushion. The design is also very simple and boasts irregularity on the marble block, which may be due to the chipping of the rock to give it the shape of a chair.

The L-Chair Atus was created to bring nature’s healing properties to our daily lives. It was showcased at Design Miami 2021 and is priced at $14,400.
