Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with living the ultimate Richie Rich fantasy: a big house, a big TV, and a bottomless vault of endless wealth! To my fortune, LG, the South Korean consumer electronics giant, has straight-up manifested my wildest, most extravagant dream into reality with its Magnit Active Micro-LED TV. As per the company, LG’s latest Micro LED boasts a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, features a 136-inch screen, offers 144Hz frame rate support, Dolby Vision HDR support, and comes with a built-in 100W sound system. The only downside? It’ll cost me an arm and a leg, or, for that matter, my whole body (Pun intended!).
If you think I am exaggerating on features, listen to T3, which doesn’t hesitate to call it “best on the planet”, and rightfully so considering the TV boasts a screen size of 136 inches, big enough to transform living rooms into a private IMAX theatre. But that’s just one aspect. What makes LG’s latest TV stand out is the Active Matrix technology, a leap forward from the Passive Matrix systems, something LG has long relied on.
According to LG, “By integrating Active Matrix technology, the new model’s self-emissive Micro LED display enables each pixel to generate its own light.” To put that statement into context, every single pixel operates independently, self-emissive, and laser-focused on delivering pinpoint control. This results in a jaw-dropping contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
LG further reveals, “Our proprietary surface treatment technology deepens black levels and minimizes the impact of external lighting for superior color accuracy.” What this results in is a remarkable contrast, vivid brightness, and color accuracy that has all the potential to rival even the best OLED panels available today.
Sustaining the magic is LG’s sixth-generation α9 AI Processor, which What Hi Fi reports “analyzes content in real time to optimize each scene”. As detailed by LG in its press release, “the chip reduces noise, sharpens clarity and recognizes faces, objects, text and backgrounds to deliver more natural, detailed and lifelike images.” Additionally, its 144Hz high refresh rate ensures buttery-smooth motion without blur or stutter, a godsend for gamers and sports fanatics alike. Not to mention, the inclusion of Dolby Vision, which adds scene-by-scene HDR optimization to the mix.

Design-wise, the Magnit Active is a modular masterpiece. Pieced together from smaller panels with gaps so minimal they’re practically invisible, creating a seamless wall of awe. Home Theatre Review aptly notes, “the modular design has been fine-tuned to minimize the visible lines where the tiles meet.” Another interesting addition is that of a revamped flicker-free panel, which is easier on the eyes during extended viewing sessions.
The TV doesn’t disappoint in the audio regard either. The Magnit Active Micro-LED TV features built-in 4.2-channel speakers that deliver 100 watts of surround sound, with eARC passthrough for lossless Dolby Atmos compatibility with your high-end soundbar. With features so grand, you expect the price to be high. LG doesn’t compromise in this regard. Although the company hasn’t disclosed the exact pricing yet, whispers from industry watchers suggest it falls within the ultra-luxury bracket, surpassing the $237,000 tag of its predecessor.
Compared to more affordable models like Hisense’s 116-inch RGB Mini-LED at $30,000, the Magnit Active is squarely aimed at the elite. It dwarfs Samsung’s 115-inch Micro RGB offering in sheer bravado, positioning LG as the undisputed king of oversized innovation. The TV is currently available for purchase in South Korea only. The release date for North America and other global markets should follow soon.
