If mosquitoes are continuously ruining your time outdoors or as you sleep, Italy-based MB Lighting Studio has come up with a non-toxic and eco-friendly solution for you. Meet Lucilla 2 Pro, a portable lamp that utilizes variable sonic wave technology for mosquito repellence inside and outside your home. The company, in collaboration with Light Cube, a spin-off of the Department of Engineering at the University of Padova, has succeeded in finding the optimal combination of sonic waves to effectively repel mosquitoes.

Building on the success of the original Lucilla lamp, the new Lucilla 2 Pro comes with upgraded features, including an enhanced battery for a better user experience. Instead of using ultrasonic repellents, it emits low-frequency sound waves that are safe for humans but mimic male mosquito wingbeats to ward off biting females naturally.

Most importantly, the sound intensity can be changed to prevent mosquitoes from getting used to it. Lucilla 2 Pro has three adjustable power levels to suit any environment. Level 1 is perfect for quiet, bedside use at night, Level 2 is ideal for indoor areas or relaxed evenings in the garden or on the terrace, while Level 3 provides maximum coverage for larger outdoor spaces over 25 square meters.

The device has LED indicators for easy battery monitoring: red for charging, green for full power, and blue to show the mosquito repellent is active. Its improved luminous efficiency ensures brighter lighting, while the upgraded lithium battery delivers 7–13 hours of continuous use. There is also an activation/deactivation button for effortless control.

Lucilla 2 Pro features an elegant, painted iron body available in black or white, complemented by a glossy white acrylic diffuser that now connects more securely and reliably to the lamp body. The light diffuser changes color with the touch of a button. A quick tap turns on the preset color, while holding the button lets it cycle through different colors. Lift your finger to set your chosen shade, and tap again to turn the light off.

This anti-mosquito lamp protects you from mosquitoes during the night, and also during the daytime from Tiger mosquitoes. If you wish to get one, it can be pre-ordered from Kickstarter for a price tag of €123 (about $138), with delivery slated for July 2025.
