One of the things I love most about the RV world is its inclusivity. There’s truly something for everyone. If you want something basic, snag one of the countless RTT campers. If you dream of a luxurious life on the road, consider a travel trailer or motorhome. However, if your idea of camping is a heart-pounding adventure combined with serious comfort, you should consider a toy hauler camper. Michigan-based RV manufacturer Modern Buggy RV has recently engineered what it calls the ‘Ultimate Hauler UH18’, a 22.3-foot-long trailer with solar power, a sleeping space, and ample room for your gear.

First spotted by New Atlas, the trailer is built on the foundation of its predecessors, mostly bare-bones cargo carriers that relied on rooftop tents for sleeping. True to the brand’s ethos, the UH18 prioritizes robust, woodless construction using steel frames and composite materials, delivering premium durability without the premium cost. This release comes alongside the broader Wedge travel trailers and the beginner-friendly Hopper camping models, signaling Modern Buggy’s push into diverse adventure niches.

Built on a double-axle trailer, it features doors on both sides of the living pod. Inside, the trailer includes a versatile folding mattress that doubles as a lounge sofa, which expands into a spacious queen-size bed. Interestingly, the trailer doesn’t feature any traditional rear galley, but rather incorporates twin cabinets at the back to accommodate essentials like a fridge, cooler, or cooking supplies, keeping things simple and versatile.
The real showstopper, however, is the integrated toy-hauling deck. Measuring 10.7 feet long and 5.9 feet wide, the platform hauls mostly all off-road machines, ranging from motorcycles to ATVs. Equipped with built-in L-track tie-downs for secure loading, it features a hefty tailgate that drops down to form a sturdy ramp, making it easy to roll your equipment on and off.

While it may not rival the extreme toughness of some Down Under haulers, the UH18 handles off-road duties admirably thanks to its steel chassis, moisture-resistant Azdel composite sidewalls, and torsion-axle suspension. Speaking of off-road capabilities, the trailer features a pair of ST235/75R15 all-terrain tires that deliver a solid 14 inches of ground clearance, paired with a 7,000-lb gross vehicle weight rating and a generous 4,500-lb payload capacity, enough to carry adventures without overwhelming midsize tow vehicles.

UH18 comes off-grid ready too, courtesy of a basic electrical system with a leisure battery, a 200-watt rooftop solar array, and handy USB outlets to keep devices charged. It supports basics like interior LEDs and a multi-speed roof vent fan, with room for upgrades to lithium batteries or even a compact 5,000 BTU air conditioner.
Outside, solar panels sit flush atop the living module, complemented by an optional roof rack for extra luggage like kayaks or spare fuel cans, enhancing its go-anywhere appeal. Although Modern Buggy hasn’t disclosed a starting price yet, rumors put its cost at around $25,000.
