Inspired by the concept of minimalism, Xu Le has designed the Moon chair that not only uses less wood but also offers an ideal solution for smaller living spaces. The Moon chair is a perfect seating furniture for apartments and studios as it takes up very little space.
This ready-to-assemble chair is made using solid wood and incorporates age-old mortise and tenon joinery methods without the need for any fasteners or glues. It takes inspiration from ancient furniture joining techniques used by traditional woodworkers in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
The mortise refers to a hole that perfectly fits a protruding tenon like a lock and key to join two pieces of wood. The Moon chair perfects this technique with exquisite dovetail locks that keep the whole furniture in stable shape.
The design of the Moon chair is truly an example of minimalistic furniture as it uses just the needed amount of wood in its creation. It features three legs, two of which are formed by the extension of the inverted U-shaped backrest in the rear and a front leg that joins with the framework using a dovetail lock.

The seat is made using wood too and mimics the shape of the hollow backrest. A small hole at the top of the backrest allows users to pick and reposition the chair without any hassle or disturbing the assembly.
