The primary difference between an iron and a handheld garment steamer is that with the latter, you can get right into the business of de-rumpling your clothes without pulling out the ironing board. Handheld steamers is a saturated market, but the Neakasa sees something that the others haven’t, and that is to iron out the clothes dry with a fast, safe, and convenient steamer, it’s calling the Magic 1.

The magic definitely isn’t in the name alone. Magic 1 takes fewer steps to crease a garment, which means there’s less wait time, and your clothing is ready to wear as soon as you’re done. For anyone who has had to wrestle with an iron and a ruffled shirt minutes before leaving the house, that sure means a lot to bank on.

Neakasa Magic 1 Vacuum Steamer is a compact device featuring a vacuum steamer, which combines steam with suction to smooth out creased fabric in a single go. Of course, that’s a huge claim, but with a 900W heating system and 2300Pa of suction power, it sure can make a good case. A single pass may not be enough, but you definitely won’t take more than a couple of rides back and forth with that level of power and suction working in tandem.

The company’s Airlon technology works in the Magic 1 by loosening the wrinkles while the suction grips the fabric, pulling moisture back through the device, helping shape the garment faster than you could before. “As steam is drawn back, powerful suction removes moisture and water stains, leaving your clothes ready to wear immediately,” Neakasa claims.

Neakasa has ensured the steam iron is as safe as it can be. It notes that steam is drawn back into the device rather than being blown outward. This reduces the chance of accidental burns. The company also claims their steam iron has a 99 percent sterilization and mite removal rate, so it’s not just ironing, it’s also sanitizing your garment while at it. Moreover, doing it quietly at under 76 decibels.

All this automation is packed inside a one-handed device, which heats up in about 30 seconds and delivers steam at the rate of 15g per minute. Steam is generated by its 118m removable water tank, which the company says can allow the Magic 1 handheld steamer to handle up to three garments per fill.

Neakasa is not just positioning the Magic 1 for household use. With its compact profile and under two pounds of weight, it can fit right inside your luggage to go with you. And when you’re with it in the hotel room, the Magic 1 can work with everything from jeans and T-shirts to more delicate materials like silk.

The Neakasa Magic 1 Vacuum Steamer comes with two operation modes: you can use it either with suction-only steaming or go with standard steam, depending on the fabric you’re dealing with. Whether that’s enough to replace an iron should depend on expectations, but as a compact, one-handed option, the Magic 1 is clearly winning in convenience at $84.99 (now 15% off its $99.99 retail price).
