Retirement is an exciting part of someone’s life, which gives a chance to take on something new. Ghislaine took this chance and decided to opt for downsized living while traveling her way through Europe, as she always wanted to. The Tiny Birdy is a custom-built, off-grid, bohemian tiny house, designed by France’s Atelier Bois d’ici, for Ghislaine. This French micro-dwelling is self-sufficient and provides comfort for both her and her cats with a bohemian touch.
Based on a double-axle trailer, the Tiny Birdy features a compact layout that can sleep up to two people and is fully off-grid. It is equipped with a 450 kWp solar power system, a 390-liter water tank with multiple filters, and a wind turbine for Ghisaline to enjoy comfort while traveling all year round.
French doors open into the living room, which features a storage-integrated seating area that can double as a sleeping station. The living area has a rustic shelf for some accessories and a little wood-burning fireplace to keep the place warm. The curtains give the nook a bohemian, nomadic touch, breathing life into the wooden design.
The co-existing kitchen is also fully equipped with a sink, fridge, a two-burner propane-powered stove, and some cabinetry that keeps the cooking essentials in place. Complete with a foldable dinner table, the kitchenette has a little coffee station with a blackboard front panel for writing recipes or grocery lists. The furniture and the appliances are kept mismatched, adding to the bohemian charm with a retro frame.
The loft bedroom is accessed through a storage-integrated staircase. The bedroom is a low-ceiling, loft space equipped with a double bed and storage. The colorful curtains and the timber walls create a relaxing environment.

Past the kitchen is the bathroom, accessed with a pocket sliding door. It is quite compact but fits a shower, a vanity sink, and a toilet. Little cabinetry and a mirror complete the look.
Measuring six meters in length and four meters in height, the tiny house is finished in knotty timber for a cabin-esque look. Dark blue aluminum windows, a storage box outside, and blue accented roof add to the charm of the house. Compact in layout yet loud in personality, the Tiny Birdy has a low impact on the environment because of its off-grid features.
