By carving out a luxurious resort in the Hijaz Mountains, Trinidad-based architecture firm Oppenheim Architecture has set a strong benchmark for future hospitality projects. The Desert Rock resort opened its doors to tourists in 2024 and was designed in close collaboration with Red Sea Global. It is considered to be the most ambitious eco-tourism development packed with luxury and moments of wonder. The resort offers 54 villas and 10 suites within the mountain paired with unobstructed views of the dramatic desert.

Just a 30-minute drive from Red Sea International Airport, the Desert Rock resort introduces the guests to world-class amenities such as a relaxing spa and fitness centers, remote destination dining areas, and a feature lagoon oasis. The otherworldly architectural wonder stretches across 30,000 square meters of land and aligns with the rhythm of the earth and nature. Inspired by the ancient Nabataean civilization known for its knowledge of the desert and sharp masonry skills, the resort hides within the mountains without disrupting them.

There are indoor and outdoor accommodations, but the most interesting are the ones located within crevices, caves, or on shaded slopes. There are villas constructed from excavated materials that offer unparalleled comfort and amazing experience.

If you want to experience tranquility and serenity, you must visit these villas. Some are atop the mountains and some are down low in the valley. These accommodations include Wadi Villa, Cliff Hanging Villas, Mountain Cave Suite, Mountain Crevice Villas, and Royal Villa.

Spanning across 2,787 square feet, the Wadi Villa is a family-friendly accommodation. It has a private pool, terrace, loungers, outdoor shower, and a beautiful view of the valley. Inside, there is a bedroom with a king-size bed, wardrobe, and dressing table. You can relax in the living area that houses a lounge, desk, and bar unit. If you feel like taking a shower, the enclosed bathroom offers the luxury. This one-bedroom villa is perfect for couples, but if you are traveling with kids, there is a two-bedroom Wadi Villa as well.

Elevated high above the resort and constructed into the side of the massif, the Cliff Hanging Villas are a treat to the eyes. Spread across 1,937 square feet, they are spacious and bright, and outfitted with private pools that look out on the surrounding beauty. With one or two bedrooms, they are suitable for couples and families.

Spend a romantic night in the elevated 1,399-square-foot Mountain Cave Suite. This one-bedroom suite is ingeniously integrated into the mountain and features an infinity pool and loungers, along with an indoor living area, bathroom, and a cozy bedroom with a king-size bed.

Stunning with magnificent architecture and views of the surrounding desert, the Mountain Crevice Villas are a family-friendly two-bedroom escape. The architecture aligns with the landscape and offers unmatched comfort and elegance.

The Royal Villa is a three-bedroom accommodation that welcomes families for an unforgettable treat. Spread across 11,915 square feet of area, the villa hides in a private part of the valley and offers an ultimate escape for those seeking privacy. This villa welcomes the guests with warmth and extravagance. The Desert Rock resort is perfect for a family get-together, grand celebrations, and a getaway above and beyond.
