Goodwoof Barkitecture is scheduled at Goodwood, West Sussex this coming weekend. A total of 20 shortlisted kennel designs from eminent creators – like the Hall + Bednarczyk and Conran & Partners – will be exhibited at the event. However, it is the British architectural firm RSHP (Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners) that is emerging as one of the strong contenders to win the fun-filled event this year courtesy of its recycled Poochchair, which is a cozy dog kennel on wheels.

We’ve seen Conran & Partners come up with a dog house on wheels earlier, but RSHP elevates the competition to a new high with their recycled Poochchair.

What looks like a trumpet in pictures offers a comfy resting place for your canine. “This is a nostalgic nod to my childhood terrier dog, utilizing scavenged parts, lovingly refashioned into a cheerful Poochchair,” states Simon Tonks, Associate Partner, RSHP.

Keeping this year’s theme (The Companion Piece – Dogs at Work) in mind, RSHP’s focus is on designing a kennel suitable for the home or office. The design takes its cue from the billions of corks, the HMV Nipper painting, wheeled toddler trainers, and strollers alike. Measuring 3.2 feet long and 2.5 feet wide, the Poochchair has wheels that allow pet parents to move their pal around the house, garden, pavement, or place of work.

Ivan Harbour, Senior Design Partner, RSHP said, “With echoes of ‘HMV’, I admire the combination of adaptive reuse and use of sustainable material in Simon’s pun-laden, mobile Poochchai definitely best pram in the show”.

The Poochchair dog house is made using recycled cork oak bark sheeting. RSHP informs Homecrux that Simon crafted the frame taken from an old central heating system, metal tires from old cartwheels, cork-laminate flooring for the ribs, and wheels taken from a well-loved pedal car. From cradle to basket, the materials used in the design are 100 percent recycled.
