In a world increasingly driven by speed and mass production, the Fu Lamp offers a gentle reminder of patience, craftsmanship, and heritage. Named after the Chinese word Fu, meaning “blessing,” this lamp is not just an object; it is a living tradition, revived and reimagined for modern homes. Designed by Yifan Jin, the Fu Lamp is a tribute to the ancient art of Linglong porcelain, once reserved for emperors and now brought within reach for everyone who appreciates beauty with meaning.
Crafted in Jingdezhen, the birthplace of Linglong porcelain, the Fu Lamp carries a lineage stretching back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Linglong porcelain is famed for its luminous, jade-like glow, produced through the carving of delicate holes known as “eyes” which are then filled with glaze. These holes create a mesmerizing glow when lit, and with the Fu Lamp, that same gentle radiance is reborn.
What sets it apart is its dual-layer porcelain body featuring 696 of these Linglong eyes, all carved by hand, then meticulously glazed and fired in a process that spans over 30 days. From slip casting and trimming to piercing and multiple rounds of firing, each lamp undergoes 16 meticulous steps that balance artistry with technical precision.
This is not a product of haste. This is slow design at its finest. Fu Lamp’s development journey spanned five years, filled with setbacks, breakthroughs, and countless refinements. One of the greatest technical challenges was achieving a double-layer porcelain body that could be fired as a single, seamless unit. The team’s persistence led to an innovation that allowed limited production to begin, with only 100 Fu Lamps crafted in the first release. Each piece is a labor of love, shaped, dried naturally, carved with soul, and brought to life through fire and glaze.

But tradition doesn’t mean outdated. Fu Lamp bridges the old with the new, making imperial-era craftsmanship functional and accessible. Designed to be portable, it includes touch-sensitive controls with three brightness levels — 100 percent, 75 percent, and 25 percent — allowing it to suit a range of moods and settings. Whether used during a quiet meditation session, as a gentle reading companion, or as ambient light for dinner, it adds a serene glow that feels timeless. Powered by a rechargeable battery, it provides up to six hours of continuous illumination, adapting with ease to the needs of a contemporary lifestyle.
What makes the Fu Lamp so special isn’t just its aesthetic grace or technical brilliance, but its philosophy. It is a piece of history, transformed into a blessing you can hold, feel, and light up. It doesn’t demand attention, it invites stillness. And in doing so, it honors both the mastery of ancient artisans and the possibilities of modern design.
With the Fu Lamp, Yifan Jin and his team invite you not just to own an object, but to join a legacy, reviving a craft that glowed for emperors, now glowing softly in homes around the world. For interested buyers, Fu Lamp is crowdfunding on Kickstarter, where you can back it for an Early Bird price tag of $110.
