A sound tower with its own tablet/phone dock, flashing LED lights, and almost a day’s worth of playback time. I don’t think anything else is a prerequisite for the music scene at a house party after this. Thank Samsung later. For now, get to what it’s offering. The South Korean giant has rocked the IFA party with the introduction of two new Sound Towers: the ST50F and the ST40F.
Akin in context to any other similar type of tall and powerful portable speaker system, these are built – you guessed it – for large gatherings. Thought your house party was big enough for the Samsung Sound Tower with 240W output? Think again, while we talk about the facets that are available to the press at the time of writing.
Understandably, the two sound towers have their respective output capabilities. The ST50F, with its 240W output, 6.5-inch dual woofers, and two 25mm dome tweeters, is the better of the two. The ST40F comprises 160W output and features 5.25-inch dual woofers and 20mm dual dome tweeters. Irrespective of where your inclination and sound requirements lie, there is one thing that you are assured to get in both: a large racetrack-style LED light strip slapped on the face.
The flashing façade syncs in tune with the music beats and also with other lights around the tweeters, the base, and the edges of the tower’s body. The ST50F rolls out on wheels pulled by a telescopic handle, while the little sibling gets surrogate treatment. It has an integrated handle only for carrying it around. If it helps, both types of handles have lights embedded into them on their underside.
All the light effects and sound produced by either of these Sound Towers are customizable. While you get six different dynamic lighting patterns and five mood presets in the lights department, the redesigned acoustic structure of the sound towers lets you customize the tweeter for room-filling sound distribution and the woofers to adjust bass in three different modes: Deep, Punchy, and Gentle.

Samsung wants you to take the ST50F and the ST40F Sound Towers outdoors. If it’s to the beach or a picnic, choose the former for its luggage style handling. For a backyard barbecue, the ST40F should be just fine. Both of them are IPX4 rated for water resistance and boast precisely 18 and 16 hours of battery backup, respectively. Inclusion of a replaceable battery in them ensures the party can continue without interruption.
The new Samsung Sound Towers are available globally. The ST50F for $699.99, and the smaller ST40F would cost $499.99.
