Sky View Backpacker Tent Flaunts Fully-Transparent Mesh for Perfect Stargazing

Two-person tent also includes a patent-pending internal rainfly

One of the greatest joys of camping is stretching out in your tent, gazing up at a dazzling display of stars in the dark sky. But most tents aren’t built for letting you enjoy this moment of peace from inside. Several tents you would come across on the internet feature a solid rainfly that blocks the view. Luckily, I stumbled upon camping gear that solves the problem. Crafted by Colorado-based camping manufacturer Sky View Tents, the Sky View Backpacker is a two-person tent built for stargazing in particular.

First highlighted by New Atlas, the Sky View Backpacker features ‘Phifer UltraVue2 Polyester bug mesh,’ a crystal-clear material that gives you a jaw-dropping 360-degree view of the stars while keeping pesky insects out. “Its 18×18 weave is astronomically better than standard meshes, giving you a front-row seat to the wonders of the night sky,” the company states.

Another major highlight of the tent and inarguably the most important one is the ‘internal rainfly.’ Generally, tents are accoutred with an outer layer that shields campers and their tent from rain, wind, and even harsh sunlight, keeping them dry and comfortable during outdoor adventures. Sky View Tents plans on changing this perception with the introduction of ‘internal rainfly,’ which, as per the company, would prevent a camper from the hassle of going outdoors during heavy rain instances and allow them to enjoy the outdoor views from inside the tent. “The clever patent-pending design lets you pop the rainfly on from inside the tent,” the makers point.

The tent measures 4.6 lbs. with all its accessories. In case you plan on going even lighter, you can swap out the included poles for trekking poles, and you’re down to a featherweight 3.25 lbs. However, I won’t count it among the lighting tents in the camping sphere, given we have options like Crosspeak Two, X-Dome 2, and Lunar Orbiter available in the market. Compared to Sky View Backpacker, though, these tents don’t offer any stargazing experience. So it’s a good fit if that’s what you are going after.

The tent features a body of 30D tear-resistant nylon with a 5000PU waterproof coating on the bottom and 3000PU on the sides, while the rainfly is made from 20D tear-resistant nylon with a 3000PU coating. So, whether it winds or rains, the tent is capable enough to handle it all.

The most frustrating part about camping is pitching the tent. But that is not the case with the Sky View Backpacker, which sets up in a breeze. The tent boasts an intuitive design that makes it easy to pitch. Priced at $349, the Sky View Backpacker can be availed from the official website of Sky View Tents. The company also offers a three-person model that’s priced at $399.
