Renowned US outdoor brand Coleman has unveiled Snap ‘N Go, which it claims is the “world’s first collapsible hard-sided cooler.” The cooler is available in three size ranges: 55 quarts(52 litres), 45 quarts (43 litres), and 35 quarts (33 litres). The flagship 55-quart model can hold up to 93 cans, while the remaining models can house 76 and 64 cans, respectively.

Despite varying in size, all these coolers collapse to just 4.7 inches in height, making them roughly the same footprint as a camping stove when stored flat. As evident by the name, the Snap ‘N Go range collapses to roughly one-third of its full size, allowing it to slide into kitchen cabinets, car trunks, and campervan storage with ease.

As highlighted by New Atlas, to achieve the innovation, “Coleman ultimately borrowed from folding storage crate design.” The manufacturer resorted to using hinge-split front and rear walls and swinging sidewalls that fold flat in a single swift motion. The cooler snaps back to full size in under 10 seconds, ready to be packed with ice and provisions.

Many camping coolers, particularly budget-friendly, hard-sided models, struggle with leaks, often releasing water from the lid, sides, or drain plug when tilted or shaken. That is not the case with Snap ‘N Go, which is lined with a thin, supple inner bladder that keeps things watertight. Remove the bladder when it’s time to fold the cooler down, resting it on top inside the closed lid.

Despite the collapsible construction, the cooling performance is quite satisfactory. Coleman promises between 48 and 64 hours of ice retention, which is twice the time compared to Ninja FrostVault and more or less equivalent to Anker Solix EverFrost 2.

The 55-quart version is priced at $240, while the 45- and 35-quart models are priced at $220 and $200, respectively. For now, Coleman has the bragging rights over making the world’s first collapsible hard cooler. How YETI or Igloo respond will be interesting to watch.
