After a lengthy seven-year hiatus since releasing its first-ever Bluetooth turntable, Sony has surprised vinyl enthusiasts by launching not one but two new decks simultaneously. The Japanese tech giant announced the PS-LX3BT and PS-LX5BT, marking a significant expansion of its audio lineup with wireless turntables designed to appeal to both newcomers and seasoned audiophiles.
The new releases serve as successors to Sony’s popular PS-LX310BT, which has enjoyed a cult following since its 2019 launch and even made our shortlist of the best turntables to buy. “Both new models combine simple, intuitive operation with advanced wireless audio technology and exceptional craftsmanship,” the company states. We’ll get to each model in detail below, but first let’s pinpoint some of the shared features that both units offer.
As per the company’s press release, both turntables feature one-button full auto playback, Bluetooth connectivity, coupled with Hi-Res Wireless Audio, and wired listening. As a standard with modern-day turntables, each unit comes equipped with an aluminium tonearm and a high-quality cartridge. Not to mention, three-level gain control, aluminium platter, and transparent dust cover that ensure stable playback and protection. “Each supports 33⅓ and 45 RPM records (7″ and 12″) and arrives in recycled packaging, reflecting Sony’s ongoing commitment to sustainability,” Sony notes.
First up is PS-LX3BT, an entry-level model priced at $400. The turntable is aimed at vinyl newcomers who want a simple, no-fuss setup. It includes an attached audio cable and a built-in phono equaliser with three-level gain control, eliminating the need for additional equipment. Sony equipped this model with a moving magnet cartridge featuring a tracking force of 3.5g, designed to deliver what the company describes as “warm analog sound suitable for everyday listening.”
For audiophiles looking for enhanced sound performance, the company is offering PS-LX5BT at $500. This particular turntable comes equipped with a high-grade cartridge that delivers rich sound with a wide soundstage, which is “ideal for focused, dedicated listening beyond everyday use.”
The turntable also boasts a thicker rubber mat and revised circuit design with improved carbon resistors and grounding layout to minimise unwanted vibration. Another key feature that sets the PS-LX5BT apart from the PS-LX3BT is the gold-plated, detachable audio jack, which allows users to experiment with aftermarket cables.
Interestingly, their higher price positions both new models in a more competitive segment, going head-to-head with established brands like Pro-Ject and Audio-Technica. Nevertheless, Sony’s USP here is Bluetooth connectivity across both models, with support for aptX and aptX Adaptive codecs and the ability to pair up to 8 devices for seamless wireless listening.

From an aesthetics standpoint, Sony has reworked the design of both turntables to achieve a sleek, minimalist look suited to modern interiors. The PS-LX3BT is now available for preorder ahead of its February release, while the PS-LX5BT is set to arrive in April.
