As dogs get old they tend to suffer from health issues like arthritis and disc problems. Also, senior dogs sometimes develop paralysis of the legs and such issues pose challenges when pet parents take them out for walks. Walking a dog is very important for the pet at any age. Therefore, pet owners try different walking aids that can assist their old furry friends in enjoying the walk. But walking aids have their issues, for example, dog wheelchairs often get stuck in the grass or when hindered by any obstacle.
Korean designers Seungha Baek, Jungmin Park, and Chaewon Lee have conceptualized a dog walking aid called Steady. It is a seatbelt-inspired walking aid that promises better walks for elderly dogs. The Steady dog walking aid is designed to provide vertical support to a dog so that it can walk safely and comfortably. It even has an integrated sensor that measures walking data and the accompanying Steady app helps analyze the walking data and then presents information about walking patterns.
The design team researched the limitations of walking aids available on the market. They joined hands with Zurich University’s veterinary department to create a walking solution that can adapt to various terrains, providing comfort and freedom to elderly dogs.

Steady dog walking aid has an ergonomic and pet-friendly design that is comfortable to use for pet owners when they take their furry friends out for a walk. It mimics the safety mechanisms of a seat belt as the strap supports the belly of the dog from behind allowing the pet to move freely. The length of the walking aid can be adjusted easily using a knob and in this way, it accommodates dogs of different sizes and height.
The strap of the Steady dog walking aid creates movement just like a seat belt thus making it usable for both the dog and their owners who get a long verticle cane-like extension to move the walking assist. Steady also has a brake that helps the dog and the owner pause to take breaks during walks, and when you are back home, just store this aid away easily.
