People who say they don’t like campers are either lying or are broke enough to buy one. To be fairly honest with you, campers cost a king’s ransom and nobody should be shy of admitting this fact. Yet, some people are adamant about owning a camper. Well, when you can’t buy one, why not build one of your own. Joshua Harris is one of those people who lived on this philosophy and built a slide-in camper for off-road adventures.

Harris said, “I spent a good chunk of my free time over the last few months building a slide-in camper for my truck. It is nearing completion and I have already taken it out on several adventures.” Dubbed Surf Sloth, the slide-in camper is mounted on the chassis of a truck and need not be towed separately. It is lightweight and a comfortable DIY build, which may pave the way for other DIY campers in the future.

The body of the camper is made of galvanized steel by the look of it, while the interior space looks jam-packed with features. Harris says he has been really careful with the material selection and overall structural design, and wanted an exterior that is durable, rot-proof, rust-free, and goes on to stand the test of time.

There is a kitchen with a sink, heater, and tons of storage space for gear inside the camper. It also features a double bed that would provide peaceful sleep in the company of nature under a starry night. One can even spot a table that could be dining furniture. In addition, there are beautiful windows near the bedside to provide a view of the outside world.

The maker was not familiar with the construction techniques, interior design, and ergonomics, yet made a heck of a camper slated for outdoor adventures. “I watched YouTube videos and learned through trial and error to make something I am proud of,” stated Harris. Overall, the camper is designed for spontaneous ski trips and mountain bike weekends.
