What makes an expedition-grade camper successful is its shell, and Australia-based Tekton claims its CX-Series camper canopies can provide just that. Designed for off-road ute (pickup truck) touring, the canopy features a true monocoque composite body that significantly reduces weight while maintaining high strength and thermal efficiency. The maker claims it offers up to 50-60 percent less weight than traditional aluminum canopies and comes with fully sealed construction to perform in the harshest conditions.
Unlike traditional aluminum camper canopies, which quickly conduct heat and cold rapidly, the CX-Series uses a fully insulated structure made from structural woven-roving 30mm fiberglass panels and a high-density XPS foam core. This composite construction is throughout the body, including the roof, doors, floor, and walls, to form a climate-stable shell.
The canopy body and chassis are engineered separately to form a monocoque/unibody assembly that minimizes thermal bridging and exposed metal. This results in a thermally efficient shell that stays cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Each canopy is sealed with tough 2K epoxy primer and finished with automotive-grade paint matched to the vehicle.
Another highlight is the chassis featuring a seamless single-rail structure that improves strength and stability. The fiberglass composite structural floor seamlessly integrates into the monocoque design, adding strength and structural stability. The chassis provides nearly 200 mm of ground clearance, with the suspension incorporating energy mitigation technology (EMT) to reduce stress on it.
The shell is secured to the chassis using specialized automotive adhesives, along with mechanical fastenings at specific locations to finalize the assembly. This way, weight stress is distributed equally across both the chassis and the body. The design uses fewer heavy steel rails in the chassis to lower the overall weight.
Meant for an expedition vehicle, the Tekton camper canopy includes several practical external features for extended trips. It carries 140 liters of fresh water, a 500-amp lithium battery, and 300W twin-cell solar panels for off-grid living. Other additions include a hot-and-cold shower system, drop-down toolboxes, a 270-degree wrap-around awning, and power inlet and outlet connections. There is also an option to choose between an integrated rooftop tent, a heavy-duty roof rack system, or a boat loader.

The outdoor kitchen lies on one side of the canopy, protected under its gull-wing door. It includes a dual-zone sink with hot and cold running water, a two-burner induction cooktop, and a six-stage water filtration system. There is also built in Diesel Hot Water System for on-demand hot water. The kitchen has drawers to house cutlery, plates, and cups, while a large cupboard provides ample space for pots and pans.
For sleeping, you can choose from two styles of rooftop tent: a clamshell or a double pop-up model. Inside, the tent offers a spacious sleeping platform measuring 2.2 meters (7.21 feet) in length by 1.35 meters (4.4 feet) wide for comfortably accommodating two adults.
The camper canopy also takes care of storage. It comes with two full-size drawers on one side and a spacious open-plan top deck above for bulkier gear such as camping chairs, tables, or firewood. Each canopy can also be customized to suit the owner’s storage needs.
The Tekton CX-Series can be fitted to a range of popular dual-cab, single-cab, and extra-cab utes, as well as American pickup trucks. The 110 kg Dual Cab and 79 Series canopy are the lightest in the series. As noted by New Atlas, the pricing of the CX-Series starts at around $22,875 for the Dual Cab model.
