The weight of a hammock tent is as crucial for backpacking as the comfort level and features it offers. This was evidenced when reviewing the Warbonnet Ridgerunner, as it was lightweight compared to many bigger hammock tents available on the market. The camping gear startup TravelBird thinks the same, which is why it has designed the ZeroG ultra-light hammock tent packed in a pocket-sized bag. Another standout feature is its specialized mesh fabric, which allows you to see through the tent even while sleeping inside.

The key factor in the weight of any hammock tent is the construction fabric, and thus TravelBird has opted for the 1.0 oz MONOLITE Ripstop Nylon Mesh. The maker claims this woven fabric is stronger and more resistant to snagging and abrasion than similar fabrics, and comes with a 150kg load capacity. Furthermore, ZeroG’s MONOLITE mesh fabric features airflow of over 1,000 CFM, ensuring great air circulation and preventing heat and moisture buildup.

The makers have also added an adjustable aluminum buckle with horn-shaped hooks on both sides of the tent to help attach various hammock sleeping system components, such as underquilts, undernets, storage hammocks, ridgelines, rain flies, mosquito nets, storage bags, and air pad fasteners. The hammock is tied to trees using polyester straps that are manufactured just like car seat belts.

Setting up the ZeroG hammock tent is simple: Tie the straps around two trees of the same height and slip it on directly. It is recommended to maintain a distance of 3-4 meters, but you can also adjust the ropes as per different distances. The tent has hooks on the side, where you add elastic ropes and pegs for stability and to expand the overall width of the hammock as well.

If you wish to buy, TravelBird offers three models: ZeroG-M, which measures 270x140cm and weighs 198g/6.88oz. On the other hand, the ZeroG-L model measuring 300x140cm weighs 208g/7.36oz. The last ZeroG-XL model measures 335x140cm and weighs 224g/7.84oz. All the models also come with 107g/3.84oz tree straps. The pricing starts from $42 for the ZeroG-M on Kickstarter. You can expect the tent to arrive in March 2026.
