Nothing comes closer to the thoughtful expression of when an object becomes the embodiment of someone’s legacy and forever reminds people of the artist’s sentiments towards their heritage and bridges the gap between the past and present. One such thought-provoking product is the Ursa Minor table light designed by Michael Bennett, the creative force behind Studio Ker. It is not just a light but a reflection of African craftsmanship, a beacon of unity and freedom. Inspired by African artistry, the light intricately intertwines traditional roots in a modern design.

Another name for the Ursa Minor is Little Dipper which means a guardian or a guiding light for it was used for navigation in ancient times. This symbolism shines through the light’s warm glow that lights up any room, a guiding light through the darkness, and a symbol of hope. This delicate tapestry of freedom and connection is beautifully interwoven by Michael Bennett for the lighting brand Gantri. For the designer, the Ursa Minor is more than a constellation, it highlights his profound connection with his roots and tradition.

For its creation, the Gantri plant polymer is used. The opaque blend polymer for the body gives it a smooth and matt finish, while the diffuser is crafted from translucent blend polymer. The light features a cord with a dimmer switch and a wall plug, everything is crafted from a sturdy TPE material to make it long-lasting.

Exhibiting a soft and welcoming glow, the light is seamlessly artistic with a sculptural profile. Underlining its functionality, it comes with a rotational capability for a full 320-degree turn. It is easy to clean; just needs a soft and moist towel dabbed lightly on its surface.

Priced at $400, the Ursa Minor table light is an aesthetic piece that brings people together in a harmonious setting. The designer imbued fond memories of his childhood revolving around witnessing stories weaved through designs. Michael intends to foster a deep connection with a sense of tranquility through his design. The light itself is indicative of the spirit of his ancestors in the most expressive way.
