As part of Danish architect and designer Verner Panton’s 100th birth anniversary celebrations, his popular Heart Cone Chair is returning in a refined edition by Vitra in collaboration with Verner Panton Design AG. It is a two-tone limited edition of the iconic heart-shaped chair designed in 1957. The front and back of the chair are finished in two different shades of blue, adding dynamism to its expressive form. The update honors the original silhouette while utilizes latest materials for contemporary living.

Panton came to this unique silhouette after designing a similar Cone Chair for a commissioned project that dealt with designing an extension to Kom Igen restaurant in Langesø Park, Denmark.

The inverted-cone shape of the chair inspired him to derive a similar design in a heart shape. This resulted in sculptural seating pieces featuring a large, heart-shaped backrest combined with an elegant base made of satin stainless steel. This unique shape is easily recognizable and designed to offer comfort and freedom of movement.

The Heart Cone Chair is a perfect example of Panton’s aesthetic language. Since collaborating with Vitra in the early 1960s, Verner Panton has brought to life several contemporary furniture design pieces, including the highly celebrated single-piece shell Panton chair.

This partnership is still going strong decades after Pantone’s demise, and we have seen examples like Panton Chrome version, Sabine Marcelis’ x Panton editions, and Panton Wire modular shelf. The Heart Cone Chair Anniversary Edition is the latest example of this long-standing partnership between the houses Pantone and Vitra. Both the organizations and the Panton family are letting people have the original works by the visionary designer till now.

Verner Panton is considered the most influential Scandinavian designer of all time, and one of the pieces designed by him is still a matter of pride for many of us. This limited edition release presents an opportunity to own one, and you can get the chair for a huge £4,030, about $5,483, making it a true collector’s item.
