Volkswagen updated its only camper van model with a wet bathroom, the Grand California, with fresh features a few months ago, and is now ready to present its latest version at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon. Based on the Crafter, the 2026 Grand California model has several visual and functional upgrades that enhance both indoor aesthetic and outdoor usability. This includes the new wood look that creates a lounge-like atmosphere in the living and kitchen area. The company says these new wood features with white interiors create a yacht-like feel.

The interior of the 2026 Grand California features a new “Atami Bamboo” style on the tabletop and kitchen surfaces. This bamboo design is carried to the PVC flooring in the kitchen, dining, and cargo areas, while a redesigned black kitchen faucet adds contrast. The wood tones against the white interior create a lounge-like feel that gives the space a Mediterranean yacht-like vibe.

Volkswagen Grand California now includes a flexible dining table that can be retracted outside to serve as a countertop space in the open air. Other highlights include luggage nets in the upper cabinets that are great for storing clothes and utensils, and a new optional thermal mat and blackout set for windows that let you maintain a comfortable temperature inside the van in different seasons throughout the year.

The living area of the latest Grand California models includes the 2024 upgrades found in the current Crafter van, like a new touchscreen infotainment system, and driver aids such as Front Assist, Lane Assist, parking aid, and traffic sign recognition.

There is an optional Travel Assist feature that offers semi-automated driving, while the electronic parking brake has been replaced with a handbrake that makes it easier to swivel the driver’s seat into the living space. You can expect to have a wet bathroom like earlier models.

The updated Volkswagen Grand California still comes in the 600 and 680 floor plans. The new features, available in both wheelbase versions, are slated to be added to the lineup this fall.
