The Volkswagen California is a popular camper van known for its compact and versatile interior design. Expanding its possibilities, this beloved mid-size camper van is now available in a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time. The all-new Volkswagen California eHybrid 4MOTION model uses a combination of an electric motor and a TSI engine to maximize range, with a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg.
Its powerful powertrain is a combination of an electric motor with a driving range is up to 54 miles with an onboard 19.7 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 1.5-liter TSI engine, offering a combined output of 245 PS. On the other hand, the 4MOTION all-wheel drive automatically engages the rear axle when required to tackle rough terrains.
The all-new California model is available in three trims: Beach Camper, Coast, and Ocean. The California Beach Camper has five seats and four sleeping spaces, but the eHybrid version comes only in a 4-seat configuration. It comes with a manually operated pop-up roof with front opening, a roof bed with spring plates, and a kitchenette with gas hob and external power supply.
The California Coast model has four seats and four sleeping spaces. It comes with a full kitchen with a cool box, sink, and exterior folding table, 230-volt socket, 3-zone climate control, electrohydraulic pop-up roof, 17-inch alloy wheels, and rear-view camera for user convenience.

The California Ocean has the similar four seats and four sleeping spaces but comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED Matrix headlights, satellite navigation system, additional roof storage compartment and interior ambient lighting.
Each California camper van model comes with two sliding side doors as standard, creating a 3-zone concept for flexibility on campsites. The completely redesigned kitchen and an external folding table allow for cooking and eating outdoors. The kitchen available on Coast and Ocean trims has a gas hob and sink, located directly by the sliding door.
The Volkswagen California eHybrid 4MOTION camper van is open for orders right now, with price starting from £71,295 (approx. $94,903) for the Beach Camper model.
