California-based product designer, Ellie Kim is taking us on a walk down memory lane with her new prototype the Wobbl rocking chair. She is adamant about invoking a childlike joy and wonder that go missing as we grow up. However, with her latest rocking chair’s uniquely explored movement that creates an engaging interaction between the person and the chair, we can enjoy the sensory pleasure of being a kid again.

Kim’s idea of a rocking chair is based on bringing back childhood joy by replicating a similar stimulation of being on the swings, a feeling quite difficult to experience every day. To create an engaging atmosphere, she draws inspiration from the swing that gives the most enrapturing and sensory stimulation. The gush of wind, the changes in motion, sound, and vision, everything combined provides the most enriching and dynamic stimuli to our mind and body.

According to her, the swinging motion is effective and quick to please us. To bring those joyful childhood movements back, she designed a chair to give the same stimulation with a swing or cradle on a chair. After creating many sketches and prototypes to consider the possible movements and body posture, she reached the final design for the Wobbl Rocking chair.

The Wobbl boasts a dynamic design that rocks in all directions, including top and bottom fins. The design is unique and the fins add an unprecedented perspective to the chair, giving it more character and depth, and most importantly providing the structure with the needed balance. It appears to be floating when seen at eye level, and this element creates a sense of mystery where the users will not be able to decipher how the chair will move.

The thoughtful build of the Wobbl rocking chair gives it a uniquely defined quality. Boasting a seamless configuration and a curvaceous dome-like structure, the rocking chair is here to help you find your joy, and connect with your inner child most playfully. Its visually striking structure makes it stand as a tangible time capsule taking us back to carefree memories of swinging on a swing and being happy.
