Days after Aurzen announced the world’s first tri-fold projector at CES 2025, the company went on to launch its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Available for preorder at an early bird price of $249, the projector continues to generate significant buzz among tech lovers, courtesy of its cutting-edge design coupled with advanced functionality, which makes it a game-changer for on-the-go entertainment.

The projector’s standout feature is its tri-fold design, which allows it to transform into a compact, Z-shaped form factor when in use. When closed, it measures just 3.1 x 3.1 x 1 inch and weighs a mere 9.8 lbs (280g), making it one of the most portable projectors available. This sleek design eliminates the need for bulky tripods you have to carry during trips, offering unparalleled ease of positioning and setup.

Portability is further enhanced by the ZIP’s built-in 5000mAh USB-C rechargeable battery, which provides up to 1.5 hours of playtime on a single charge. With 24W Type-C PD fast charging, you can quickly recharge and keep the entertainment going. For those who need extended playtime, the ZIP comes with an optional PowerPlay accessory that features a 10,000mAh battery, boosting the projector’s runtime to three hours.

Beyond the portability aspect, ZIP features a native 720p resolution and delivers 100 ANSI lumens of brightness, ensuring crisp and vibrant visuals. I really appreciate the brand’s honesty in mentioning 100 lumens specifically, considering there are makers in the market that tout high features only to end up ghosting the backers.

Anyways, what sets ZIP apart is its built-in gyroscope, which enables seamless rotation for both landscape and vertical, borderless content. This makes it perfect for enjoying short-form videos from platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels in full-screen mode. I don’t mean to demean a mobile phone in any way, but with features of such standard, ZIP viewing experience goes beyond what a smartphone can offer.

“The projector is powered by advanced Time-of-Flight (ToF) ‘Zero-Lag Auto Focus Technology,’ commonly used in aerospace and robotics, courtesy of which ZIP measures distance 30 times per second to automatically adjust focus and vertical keystone correction.” If this is to be believed, ZIP indeed ensures a flawless, lag-free viewing experience, whether you’re streaming movies, gaming, or sharing presentations.

One thing I have always disliked about projectors is the complexity of setup and reliance on Wi-Fi. The ZIP simplifies this process with Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity and effortless screen mirroring. “Users can tap ‘Mirror’ to instantly enjoy a full-screen experience without needing a Wi-Fi connection, making it as easy as using AirPods,” the ZIP campaign page reads.

For those who prefer wireless streaming, the optional CastPlay dongle connects the ZIP to HDMI-compatible devices like TVs and gaming consoles, offering a hassle-free way to project content. No wonder this palm-sized projector is an ideal companion for gamers, movie enthusiasts, and professionals alike.

The company has also announced a range of options for add-ons alongside the projector. This includes a MagPlay magnetic mount that combines vacuum suction and magnetic force to securely grip flat or metal surfaces. This allows users to project from any position or angle.

Lastly, we have the AurzenHub control hub that lets you manage your device via a touchpad, virtual keyboard, and function buttons, adding an extra layer of convenience. These accessories make the ZIP foldable projector a complete entertainment system tailored to the needs of entertainment enthusiasts.
