Having compost bin in the kitchen is as vital as your favorite food items in the refrigerator. Every day a large amount of food and other organic waste is generated in the kitchen which can be put into a composter rather than the landfill. If you also wish to adopt the green culture, but not satisfied with design or procedures of the kitchen compost bins available in the market, then take a glance at Taihi compost bin designed by British product designer Ben Cullis Watson.

With this vertical rubbish bin, homeowners will never have to worry about odor control in food waste composting, even if they put it anywhere in the kitchen. It converts food waste into compost for garden and liquid fertilizer for household plants.

Taihi compost bin is based on Bokashi, a Japanese method for fermenting kitchen waste into fertilizer. In this method, special microbes are used to wrap up food waste and decrease foul smell. Users need to put in a replaceable vial to spread microbes and start the composting process.

There are two 20L internal containers to store and rotate the waste through a two-week fermenting cycle. It uses a double-lid system and rubber seals to ensure zero leakage. Its body is also covered with a non-stick coating to aid emptying and cleaning.

Unlike traditional compost bins, users need not spin the compost bin very often. When you need to deposit kitchen waste, just press to open the lid. Watson also plans to create and bring improved iteration of the Taihi bin in the near future.
