In a world where human connections are fading, one connection remains constant: the one between dogs and humans. London-based AHMM Architects reinforced our relationship with dogs with its space-themed dog kennel for 2026 Barkitecture. Dubbed ‘2051: A Space Odyssey – For Dogs!,’ it reminds us that the relationship with man’s best friend is the only thing that is constant as a form of humanity, transcending beyond the cosmos like an eternal hope.
The firm drew inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s iconic film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Makers believe that the image that Kubrick created is still relevant today, making the design more authentic and honest.
According to the maker, our losing interest in space, except as a site of luxury tourism and mass destruction, hits closer to home through this kennel’s pop culture-themed design. It brings back nostalgic memories of a forgotten future and space travel, when it was about exploring possibilities beyond Earth’s horizon, and not destroying what’s already there.
The kennel also draws cues from Laugier’s primitive huts for a sentimental touch. Amidst the declining hope for future space expeditions, dogs wearing retro headgear and a backpack spin on their exercise wheel, reassuring humans not only of their relationship with the stars but also with their furry friends.

Weighing around 50 kilograms, the pod looks ready to take a flight, engineered with the elements of a real-life spacecraft. There’s a ramp for the dog to walk in and out freely. Inside, dogs can lounge comfortably as their vessel moves through the galaxies.
The ‘2051: A Space Odyssey – For Dogs!’ celebrates and explores the timeless bond between humans and dogs that has grown stronger over time, and will continue to do so beyond space and time.
