Alan Kendall, a retired mechanical engineer, could not find a motorhome of his choice, so he converted a 2006 Dodge Sprinter into a full-fledged house on wheels complete with a kitchen, bathroom, an elevator bed and a number of storage drawers on the outside and inside.

Alan has built and engineered the entire van home by himself. He has used two layers of aluminum filled with Nomax honeycomb, fiberglass, and foam for the structure, which is then covered in fiberglass and painted green for meaningful aesthetic.

There are plenty of pull-out storage compartments on the outside, housing the battery bank, central vacuum, grey and fresh water connections, water filters, and a few drawers to hold other random household items. These compartments are also made from lightweight fiberglass material.

The van home is currently powered by a powerful battery system onboard but Alen plans to add flexible solar panels on the rooftop in the near future.

The motorhome features all amenities Alen would possibly need on the road. The interiors are bathed in softer shades with wooden details for contrast. One side of the van home occupies a dinette that can be turned into an additional bed, while the other side has a kitchen featuring 7-foot countertop with sink, a large fridge, oven, dishwasher, and an under-counter cabinet.

To the side of the kitchen is a bathroom with a shower and toilet – there is even a closet. Water is heated by the engine as the van is driven. Powered by electricity or diesel, the hydronic floor heating system ensures comfort under the feet.

The most fascinating item in the van home is the electric-powered elevator bed that is accessed via steps built into the wall of the bathroom. There are windows on both sides to bring in ample light.

Despite the limited space, Alan has cleverly incorporated different features needed for a comfortable stay. His background in electrical and mechanical engineering has helped him a great deal to build this amazing, feature-packed motorhome. It is absolutely remarkable that almost every item in this build is engineered and custom-built by Alan in his garage.
