The tiny house movement is enjoying a rather mighty time under the sun as more and more people are gravitating toward downsized lifestyle for a myriad of reasons. Granting compact dwellings offer all necessities for comfortable lounging, you won’t see many two-story tiny houses. To that accord, the startup Vagabundo Tiny Homes has created the Vagabundo Flex: a tiny house with a pop-up second floor to offer optimum flexibility and extendable living space with a minimum footprint.
The mobile and sustainable home looks like an alluring blend of traditional home and container house. The Flex was born out of an idea to maximize available space with an automatic lift mechanics to jut the second floor upwards in camp mode, elevating the structure height to 20.3 feet. In travel mode, the second floor neatly tucks in the main one to keep it at 13.1 feet high. The pop-up tiny house can be placed on wheels or on a foundation for a permanent residence. It employs a steel platform and a wooden frame, while the second floor is clad in aluminum sheets.
The interior is as impressive as the edifice design. The ground floor consists of the living area, the kitchen, and the bathroom; all clad in wood and comfortable furnishings. With two windows allowing panoramic views, the living room is a nook enveloped in glass on three sides. The kitchen – tucked away under the staircase leading to the loft – is equipped with an induction cooktop with an integrated extractor, a sink with touch-activated interior light, a prep area, an oven, the fridge, and storage integrated into the cabinets under the stairs.

The bathroom is accessible through a pocket door and features a sink with large vanity, toilet, and a shower with aluminum walls and a dark contrasting floor. A small front-loading washing machine and storage are located in a separate room. Upstairs, the bedroom has a porthole-style window and a large picture window on the landing. There is even a workstation in the space across the bedroom.
Moreover, the Flex is equipped with underfloor electric heating on both levels, LED strip lighting throughout, and is grid-dependent for electricity and water. The Vagabundo Flex tiny house is priced between $160,500 and $176,000 but is only available in Germany and the EU.

Yes, there is a lot to like about your Flex house! The upstairs loft is way more attractive than I had expected. And, for my taste, the overall interior only needs some personal touches to warm it up a bit to suit one’s own preference. This is an impressive home inside and out!
