Kate and Benoît spent a lot of time traveling abroad and after all the expedition, they decided to settle down in New Zealand. They chose downsizing as an option and started planning their small dream home. The couple wanted the tiny house to be artful and also desired thrifty material sourcing. Next, they started DIYing their little abode with the help of Kate’s brother who had experience in building homes. Thus was born this Handcrafted tiny house.

Kate’s parents owned a property for 23 years and this is where the Handcrafted tiny house was built. The small home measures 23 feet long and 10 feet wide. The exterior of the house is done in black and brown color. Fijian Mahogany was used for exterior walls and also in window frames. The house was mostly made out of recycled material as the couple didn’t want to invest too much in new materials. A BBQ adds more charm to the outdoors.

The interiors also boast quality timberwork. It has a spacious kitchen as Kate and Benoît are fond of cooking and often invite their friends to join in the party at their house. The honeycomb tiled pattern in black above the countertop looks pretty. There is a creatively designed table where residents can sit and have their meals.

Next to the kitchen is a couch that has bookshelves-cum-stools underneath which can be pulled out to create more seating in the kitchen area. The stools can also be placed next to the couch to create a two-person sitting area. The couple uses this arrangement to watch movies on their laptop.

The storage space behind the fridge is used to store appliances. Below this arrangement, there is a shoe storage section and a drawer to store gardening tools and seeds.

The house features a spacious bathroom with a big shower which has shelves to store toiletries. It has a beautifully designed inlet vanity with a jewelry shelf on the right side of it. There is a composting toilet with a laminated wooden seat and cover. The bathroom also features a wardrobe and a washing machine.

The exquisite storage staircase leading to the loft level is another feather in the cap of this Handcrafted tiny house. Each step is designed to look like a work of art. It leads to a comfy bedroom with windows surrounding it. The bed has a mosquito net around it so that the couple can enjoy natural ventilation in mild weather. There is a good amount of storage in the bedroom as well.

The couple wanted to have the feel of a treehouse in their tiny home so they built it next to a tree on the property. They also tied two hammocks between the tree and the house. The tiny house is inspiring and has a character of its own.
