Jomo Tariku is an Ethiopian American industrial designer whose designs have African influences. The artist has some amazing designs to his credit that are a blend of history with modernity. Inspired by the Ashanti Kingdom – which was in existence from 1701 to 1901 and is now known as Ghana – Ashanti stool is the latest of Tariku’s work. It is a new avatar of the Golden stool that fuses two important symbols from the Ashanti Kingdom.

The material used for the Ashanti stool is Baltic birch plywood. It has two versions, one with a natural wood finish and another with a matte black finish. The upper part of the stool has a curved seat that draws inspiration from the royal throne of the king. The base of the stool is circular and commemorates round golden regalia that was historically worn by the leaders who used to carry out religious ceremonies, especially spiritual purification.

Ashanti stool by Jomo Tariku is a part of the Watatu stool series that also includes creations by artists like Dogon and Boraatii. Ashanti is thus a regal piece of furniture that can complement modern interiors. It can suffice as a prized possession for people who like historical design elements.
