Commonly benches are built with wood, plastic, metal, or concrete, due to the rigidity they provide to the structure. But can you imagine a bench that is made from clay? Your answer might be no. But the French designer Alan Louis has built a unique collection of benches, entirely made from clay. The Cabo bench is a minimalist structure that is made from chamotte clay, a raw material used to make ceramics.

The chamotte clay is prepared by firing up three and four times in a rotary kiln at a temperature between 900 to 1600 degrees Celsius. It is used for making stoneware, graffiti, and sculptures, but a bench with clay is surprising. This specific clay doesn’t shrink even after drying, which makes it a perfect material for the bench.

The Cabo bench provides more functionality, it boosts the beauty of your bedroom. It is 23 inches long, 7.87 inches wide, and 8.11 inches high, making it easy to move around. One person can sit comfortably on it.

The artistically designed Cabo bench has a minimalistic color theme. The bench has two legs one is cylindrical and the other one is made up of two spheres and a hemisphere. The benchtop gracefully rests on these heterogeneous legs. The cylindrical support looks like a wooden block, which is partially cut from the top to provide a bracket of sorts to hold the benchtop.

The Cabo bench is fantastically designed furniture for versatile settings. It can be used both indoors and outdoors. It costs €4,000 (roughly $4,300) and can be purchased from Alan Louis’s website. You also can order a handstitched cushion which is optional.
