But in Bristol, University of Bath in collaboration with products manufacture Modcell has constructed fully-functional seven townhouses using straw bales. These eco-friendly and affordable straw homes have been put on sale in Bristol for comfortable urban living, just like any conventional home.
The developers have compressed nearly 7.2 tones of straw inside timber frames for an average three-bedroom house. Due to this construction technique, these eco-friendly townhouses have a sturdy layout for provide superior levels of insulation to reduce energy consumption by 90-percent. This means energy bills will cut down to a greater extent as compared to an equivalent concrete building structure.
The certified high quality straw panels were tested for energy efficiency, fire safety, durability and weather-resistance. These straw houses can withstand heavy rainfall and also extreme temperatures ranging from -20 degrees to 50 degrees. So, these are perfect dwellings for living conveniently, irrespective of any weather conditions. This traditional construction technique is certainly a ray of hope for better economical as well as sustainable eco-homes for tomorrow.
