The Ed chair by UK-based Design by Joffey, founded by architect and designer George C, is a quirky furniture that will challenge your interpretive skills. It has a minimalistic design that offers a seat to you and doubles as your cat’s snuggle spot. The design of the chair seems confusing at first but it couldn’t be more simpler. Its unique silhouette is achieved by forming every part with one continuous strip of material.

The chair may remind of paper planes made by kids with a single sheet of paper. It seems like the designer went for the same philosophy; but instead of using a single sheet, he used the glass fiber reinforced polyester.

The unique chair design is achieved through folding and bending the glass fiber reinforced polyester five times to form the chair. It is utilitarian for people with the backrest, while a small seat is created on the floor for the feline to nap on. The process of folding and bending the material to form the furniture adds a poetic touch to the final product, which seems far from its industrial genesis.

The designer breaks the boundary of traditional chair design by minimizing the material use and giving a minimalistic yet multifunctional furniture. Underlining its versatility, it could be a sculptural piece and a useful furniture in a living space.

Not only it is functional, it bring you and your pet closer. You can sit and enjoy coffee, while your cat snuggles peacefully on the leg base of the chair. The Ed chair is a sculptural design that will bring playfulness and whimsy to your home, not to mention a strong sense of style.
