IKEA is one of the most affordable furnishing companies in the world whether you are looking for home décor in general or for holidays. Not only that, IKEA furnishings are great for DIYing as well. Take this festive gingerbread house doormat for instance, which a DIYer made using the $5 TRAMPA doormat from IKEA.

Instagram user @maiifin took the simple coir doormat, cut a few corners and decorated it for Christmas. The IKEA natural coir doormat provides a nice gingerbread house base and is one of the easiest ways to turn already available items into festive decorations.

This Christmas craft is effortless to replicate and the doormat doesn’t even have to be from IKEA. It only has to have a brown base and a paintable surface. Gather the supplies – the mat, a box cutter or a pair of sharp scissors, white paints, and a paintbrush.

With a box cutter or a pair of sharp scissors, diagonally cut the mat in two corners to give an angled shape of the roof. Next, start painting the gingerbread decorations, windows, and door to complete the look.

This budget-friendly DIY gingerbread decoration is easy and can be a part of family holiday activity as well. It also allows you to explore your creativity and imagination as the doormat can be painted with your version of the holiday joy at their front door.

You can paint it with tiny wreaths, candy canes and winter holiday scenes, depending on your creative thumb. Check out the video of IKEA doormat gingerbread house by Mai here.
