First launched in 1995 at the Milan Furniture Fair, IKEA’s PS collection is an experimental playground where designers push the boundaries of Scandinavian design to make it accessible to more people. The company has recently launched its 2026 PS collection, marking its 10th edition, where 12 designers have explored playful functionality and Scandinavian design in their own style.

Focusing on a shared goal of creating products that are simple, practical, and full of personality, the 2026 PS collection features a total of 44 pieces designed to blend everyday functionality with distinct personality. It includes everything from a rotating floor lamp and inflatable easy chair to furniture and objects that rock, fold, climb, and more.

The collection is designed to encourage curiosity and interaction through playful details and unexpected functions. You can notice some features immediately, like a rocking bench that gently moves when you sit on it. There are also products that you must use to discover details, such as a table with a secret drawer that pulls from both ends to serve as a chess table, a flexible chair with different sitting positions, and a height-adjustable pine stool with a large lever that compels your interaction.

Designed for small homes, a number of pieces in the collection serve multiple purposes. The sofa doubles as a comfortable bed, while the lounge chair can unfold into a guest bed in three steps. A solid wood dining table folds flat for storage, and the foldable chair can also hang on the wall as artwork. Rotterdam-based designer Lex Pott created a rotating floor lamp that can switch between spotlight, reading light, and uplight modes.

The PS collection also finally completes IKEA’s vision of creating inflatable furniture. Designer Mikael Axelsson hand-welded 20 prototypes before finalizing the design, which features two separate air chambers supported by a tubular chrome frame. The easy inflatable chair ships flat-packed with a foot pump and has passed the same durability tests IKEA conducts on its armchairs.

Traditional craftsmanship is an important part of the collection. Designer and master cabinet maker Friso Wiersma created two solid wood storage pieces inspired by his experience as a boatbuilder. One cabinet features a woven wood front that highlights the craftsmanship, while a wide pine shelf has red-painted ends inspired by the traditional method used to protect wood from cracking during drying.

The collection is completed with rugs, cushion covers, pre-cut fabrics, and a throw with colorful motifs by American artist Michelle Armas, as well as three hand-blown glass vases by Maria Vinka.

The IKEA 2026 PS collection proves that even the smallest details can bring an object to life. First reported by Wired, it will be launched globally today at IKEA stores and online, but there are no details about the pricing yet.
