Tokyo-based robot manufacturer Yukai Engineering has come up with this odd yet adorable creation. Dubbed Nekojita FuFu, it is a mini cat-shaped robot whose purpose is to cool down hot meals and beverages by blowing air on them. This mini robot is designed to mount cutely on the side of your cup, bowl, or sit next to a hot plate to make your task easier. According to the makers, the robot is integrated with a fan actuated with a special algorithm (also called Fuing System) to help blow on any hot food in various orientations and with varying intensities, just like humans do.

Debuting at CES 2025, the name of this quirky robot is a combination of two names – ‘FuFu’ suggests the sound we make when blowing on hot food, while ‘Nekojita’ means ‘Cat Tongue’ a Japanese phrase used to describe people who can’t tolerate hot and spicy food. Therefore, two different concepts are juxtaposed to create one device that prevents your tongue from burning.

Nekojita FuFu works in different modes. First, it starts with steady medium-strength blows, taking short intervals. Then, it gradually gains speed and strength. A strong headstart is followed by sturdy and short blows. Meanwhile, stop-and-go medium blows air to see if your food is cool enough to eat. Lastly, there are steady medium blows with shorter and deeper inhalations in between, without spilling your food and drinks. Priced at $25, the cat robot will be released in Japan at some point in mid-2025.

The company sheds light on the idea and purpose behind this robot and says, “Nékojita FuFu was born out of Yukai Engineering’s 2024 internal Make-a-Thon.” The maker further states that during this time team leader pondered over the idea while blowing on “freshly cooked baby food for his son because doing so often left him feeling breathless and dizzy.”
