We love writing about tiny houses with stories written on their walls. One such tiny house is of this Kiwi couple who built their dream home in the Australian wilderness. The couple, Nina and Victor, poured their hearts into building their off-grid tiny house, which they call Potoroo. They designed and built it to be open, space-saving, and friendly for their cat. Victor and Nina’s DIY tiny house measures 26 feet long and 8 feet wide. The combination of blue and white on the exterior is striking and metal siding adds to its durability. The windows and a large glass sliding door bring in natural light and fresh air.

There is an outdoor shower that works pretty well. Additionally, the deck expands the living space. They have made it cozy with a couch and a dining table for two to enjoy the evening meals looking over to the surrounding landscape.

One of the thoughtful additions is a cat tunnel that goes all the way from the cat door to a fully secured space for their furry friend to be playful. Huge solar panels and rainwater systems make their home off-grid. Extra outdoor space has been utilized with a garden, self-planted trees, bushes, and a fire pit as part of Nina’s tiny house dream.

The interior of the Potoroo tiny house is space-saving. It is captivating with light timberwork throughout and a high ceiling imparting a spacious and open feel. The living area has a built-in sofa with storage underneath, open shelving, and a camouflaging compartment beneath the floor.

The kitchen in the Potoroo tiny house has a U-shaped countertop with plenty of storage above and below and generous space for them to prep meals together. They designed the countertop to be more than just a prepping space; it is a breakfast bar with indoor-outdoor connectivity, working space, and whatnot. The appliances include a cooktop, range hood, refrigerator, microwave, and refrigerator for everyday convenience.

The bathroom is another well-designed space. It accommodates a second-hand composting toilet, regular-size shower, vanity sink, washer-dryer unit, and storage. There is a loft above the living room that serves as a home office for Victor, their gaming or reading room, and an overall entertainment zone with a TV.

The second loft is a master bedroom. It is accessible via a storage-integrated staircase from the living area. The room has a king-size bed, storage, and a safety wall that serves as a bookshelf. Victor and Nina have a cozy and bright room with optimal ventilation thanks to the windows. There is a catwalk that connects the master bedroom with the other loft.

Potoroo tiny house has been Victor and Nina’s sanctuary for three years now and fits their lifestyle like a glove. It is an inspiration for you to build your micro-dwelling yourself.
