If you’re passionate about off-road adventures and haven’t come across any travel trailer news, it’s likely because North America and Australia aren’t quite in ‘travel trailer season’ right now. This is why I headed to the shores of South Africa, which is currently bracing for summer. This could only mean one thing: a lot of adventure, and a hell lot of camper trailers. We’ve already seen trailer manufacturers in Australia and the US drawing inspiration from their South African counterparts when designing travel trailers. When I first laid eyes on the Ingane travel trailer, I knew this was something that US and Australian companies would soon be incorporating into their designs.

Crafted for the serious off-roader, the compact yet mighty, Ingane off-road trailer is designed by Buffeljagsrivier-based camper trailer manufacturer Infanta 4×4. Measuring 13.3 feet long, the trailer is built to withstand the toughest terrains while offering exceptional comfort at camp. The trailer comes fully equipped with a 2500 kg (5500 lbs.) auto-reverse braked axle, 36-inch leaf springs, and Safari shocks, ensuring that it can handle rough trails and bumpy roads with ease.

While the trailer may appear pretty small at first glimpse, don’t let its small footprint deceive you. The Ingane expands into a cozy, functional living space once you’ve reached your destination. This is possible courtesy of Ingane’s ‘Howling Moon Adventure Trailer Tent’ which provides shelter and expands your living area, offering a comfortable place to sleep and relax. On the downside, there is no designated sleeping area inside the trailer, so I would recommend carrying the likes of Flextail so you can sleep cozy inside the tent.

Nonetheless, the trailer comes equipped with a 100-litre upright water tank, while a holder for a 5 kg (11lbs) gas cylinder ensures you have the fuel you need to cook up a meal in the built-in kitchen. Focusing on the kitchen, it comes equipped with a stove, cutlery holders, and a set of containers, plates, mugs, and stainless steel glasses, making it easy to prepare and enjoy meals at your campsite. The makers allow you to add a fridge of your choice (up to 90l), a sliding drawer system for easy access to your fridge/freezer, and a 12-volt water pump with plumbing to make your off-grid experience even more enjoyable.

Other features include a gas geyser system with both hot and cold water taps to ensure you can enjoy a warm shower wherever you are. Despite all these features, the Ingane remains lightweight and easy to tow, with a delivery weight of just 900 kg (1984 lbs.) when fully equipped.

For other off-grid needs, the trailer comes equipped with a 220V electrical system, three plugs, a Victron 10A battery charger, and a battery monitor. All these rigs come in handy in helping you stay powered up no matter how far off the grid you go. For added convenience, the Ingane features a cupboard with multiple compartments, shelves, and hanging space, making it easy to keep your gear organized and accessible.

Ingane is currently selling for 201,250 South African Rand (approximately $11,000). If you are somewhere in South Africa, try your hands at this compact and lightweight trailer, that’s meant to elevate your off-road adventures.
