Camping is a sacred ritual often marred by heavy gear, one of which is the tent equipment. To that accord, many outdoor companies have been experimenting with different materials and designs to create tents that are ultra-lightweight and can brave wild weather conditions, be it snow or storm. The latest to join these companies is the US-based brand Hyperlite Mountain Gear with its CrossPeak 2 tent, which only weighs 2 lbs.

The CrossPeak 2 has a freestanding, low-profile dome-inspired construction. It weighs at an even 2 lbs when packed, without relying on any mandatory hiking pole or guy line. The lightweight makes it an ideal option for backpackers and bike campers.

The CrossPeak 2 tent splits the tent body (weighing at 601 gram) and poles (weighing at 363 gram), and packs them into separate Dyneema sacks, making it easier to be carried by two campers. It has an 88-inch, somewhat tapered floor (48” to 45”) that can sleep one person or two skinny people, while leaving room for gear inside.

Made from 100 percent waterproof Dyneema Composite fabrics, this freestanding tent uses a typical X-frame design that crisscrosses two poles diagonally to the corners. The small horizontal canopy pole is there to increase the usable internal space. A lighter DCF5 fabric is used for the fly, whereas DCF10 is utilized for the floor, mesh doorways, and vents.

The single wall construction of CrossPeak 2 tent comes with exterior pole sleeves, eliminating the need for additional components. The sleeves are constructed from a 20-denier silnylon fabric, offering better strength and puncture resistance. Its three aluminum DAC Featherlite NFL poles have an 8.7mm diameter. According to the brand, the poles are deliberately cut to lengths to work well with backpacks and bikepacking bags.

The tent includes two doors and vestibules, two peak vents at each doorway. Adjustable ventilation is built into the head and foot of the tent to help you control airflow. Hyperlite Mountain Gear is offering additional exterior guyline points that can be used in rough weather.

You can pitch this tent almost anywhere, from rocky, root-filled terrain to designated tent platforms. With all these alluring features, you might want to get your hands on it right now, but you have to wait a while as the shipping will begin in early May. The only deterrent might be the price tag, which is $950.
