Herman Miller appears to be putting more focus this year on reviving classic furniture pieces, with examples like Alexander Girard’s Flower Table, George Nelson’s Basic Cabinet Series, and the distinctive Snake Table from the New Mexico collection. Moving in a new direction alongside these revivals, the company has introduced the Pawson Drift Sofa Group, a lounge collection designed by world-renowned architect John Pawson. This marks the London-based designer’s debut collaboration with Herman Miller, featuring a series thoughtfully created for lounging and providing continuous comfort and support.
The collection showcases generously proportioned cushions framed by a rectilinear solid wood joinery with square edges. It includes two sofa sizes (80″ and 93″), a left- or right-facing chaise sectional, and a lounge chair.
“Like all my work, this sofa group results from a process of distilling design to its essence—where the fundamental experience of space and objects is grounded in the quality of proportion, surface, and light,” explains Pawson.
The Pawson Drift Sofa Group provides continuous support through its thoughtful design. Featuring a recessed, solid hardwood frame with a wrap-around design, each piece is crafted to be admired from every angle. The frame is available in either white oak or walnut.
The cushions are meticulously constructed to retain their shape and come in a variety of premium textiles and leathers, including three Greenguard Gold Certified fabrics, Rowan, Beck, and Isa, that help promote cleaner indoor air quality.
The cushions also feature a responsibly sourced down feather jacket as an extra layer of comfort. These plant-based latex cushions rest on a concealed suspension system made of textile straps beneath cotton decking for added comfort and durability.

With a focus on sustainability, the Pawson Drift Sofa Group is crafted using over 80 percent natural, plant-based materials. The cushions feature natural latex foam to provide a renewable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based foam. The solid frame is also constructed from sustainably sourced North American hardwood. This approach creates refined lounge furniture that is both comfortable and minimizes ecological impact.
Pawson brings his rigorously simple approach to furniture design. These pieces complement the surroundings and enhance the experience of space rather than overwhelming it. The Pawson Drift Sofa collection can be purchased in stores and Herman Miller official website. The pricing starts from $4,585 for the Pawson Drift Lounge Chair, with the price rising to $13,210 for the Sectional sofa.
