Javapresso Combines Grinding, Brewing, and Steaming in Compact, Home-Friendly Device

With features so good, it could very well be another Kickstarter scam

Kickstarter has increasingly become a risky platform, with many projects raising suspicions of fraud. And if you thought coffee machines were immune to the matter, think again, because xBloom and Minority Pi EspressoPot are classic examples of how companies have deceived people into crowdfunding projects that backers have never received to date. My fear with the Javapresso, all-in-one home espresso machine, is the same.

Launched on Kickstarter this past week, the machine promises to streamline the coffee-making process by combining grinding, brewing, and steaming into one compact, user-friendly device. It also includes an integrated smart scale that measures the weight of coffee grounds, ensuring every shot is free from bitterness or sourness. With a compact coffee machine boasting numerous features, this could very well be another scam, I doubt.

But I like to be hopeful. And if the all-in-one machine walks the talk, it could very well be in contention to be the best espresso machine we have seen in years. Javapresso features a 250g bean hopper, a conical burr grinder with 30 adjustable settings for consistent, clump-free grounds, and a 2200W high-performance extraction system for rich, aromatic espresso.

Unlike traditional setups that require separate grinders, espresso machines, and steam wands, Javapresso integrates these functions into a single, sleek unit. This design not only saves valuable counter space but also simplifies the process, making it accessible for both beginners and seasoned coffee aficionados.

When it comes to making a shot of coffee, the process is straightforward. All one needs to do is load their favorite beans, adjust the grind size, tamp the grounds into a high-pressure funnel, lock it into the extraction head, and select single or double-shot brewing. A powerful steam wand would then produce velvety microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos, and a control knob dispenses hot water for Americanos, tea, or quick rinses.

Barring the control knob and a touchscreen interface, other specific technical details about the Javapresso machine are not fully disclosed on the campaign page. But one thing is pretty clear. Javapresso Home Espresso Machine consolidates the grinding, brewing, and steaming processes, eliminating the need for multiple devices, reducing both cost and complexity. This makes it an attractive option for coffee enthusiasts who want cafe-quality drinks without investing in a full barista setup.

However, there are various aspects of the campaign that have raised doubts in my mind. It is very strange that the campaign page, despite having thirteen backers, has no comments on it. Had I been the one backing the project worth $530, I would have flooded the page with loads of questions. This makes me wonder if the project is self-funded by the creator or is some dirty work by a fraudulent marketing agency at work.

Secondly, it’s pretty dumb of the creator to offer Javapresso Duo without any discounts. Generally, the practice suggests giving a greater discount than on a single unit. So, I presume there are bots at work, or the creator is too amateur to think of such things. Whatever the case, the Javapresso Home Espresso Machine can be preordered on Kickstarter starting $529. Whether you want to back it or not is totally up to you. The best advice we can offer at the moment is to check the creator’s history and, if needed, get in touch with the team before pledging your money for a campaign.
