Italian brand Seletti is well-known for transforming iconic characters and everyday objects into statement lighting pieces. Its standout creations such as Black Cat Lamp, Monkey Lamp, and Leaf Light are a perfect example of its fine craftsmanship that blends art and pop culture in playful designs. For 2026 Maison&Objet, the brand has collaborated with Mario Paroli to transform an iconic ballpoint pen into a pendant lamp. This launch celebrates the 75th anniversary of the iconic BIC Cristal ballpoint pen.

The BIC lamp is a scaled up version of the iconic pen in a 12:1 ratio that looks really big and eye catching. The designer has cleverly re-imagined the function of the ball-point pen and adjusted the proportions to turn it into a functional lighting design that can sit anywhere in your home or office. Each lamp is crafted using carefully selected materials that replicate the original product, and uses modern LED technology for illumination.

As visible in the pictures, the BIC lamp features a transparent barrel with cap on one end. The ink tube has been replaced with a light element that spans all across the barrel. The LED light source is elongated that delivers wide, even illumination, making it ideal for large surfaces such as dining or conference tables.

The pendant lamps are attached to ceiling using two thin wires and need to be plugged into a wall outlet for power. Another detail to highlight is the flexible orientation that allows you to install it horizontally or vertically as you like.

This pendant lamp creates a subtle presence whether you place it in your living room or bedroom. It highlights a unique way of approaching lighting design, with unconventional concepts that may seem odd at first but end up truly unique. This particular lamp shows how daily use objects can also become design inspiration.

It is available as a floor lamp, pendant, or wall-mounted version in the iconic black, blue, and red colors. Seletti is presenting the BIC lamp at a Maison&Objet display inspired by neighborhood stationery shops.
