Today, the world of lawn mowing looks a lot different, but there was a time when the walk-behind mower was the only option, aside from the sickle and the usual manual hand pulling the weed job, but none of it was friendly to your back in the long run. This struggle paved the way for the dawn of the modern robotic lawn mowers, which offer convenience, save time, and deliver a consistently manicured lawn with virtually no manual effort. But with so many options on the market, choosing the right one quickly becomes a dilemma, especially when every major brand has risen to the challenge, luring buyers with robots that do far more than mowing.

Case in point, the Yarbo Modular Robot, which features four distinct modules: a straight-blade mower for thick grass, a plow blade for clearing snow from driveways, a collector for leaves and debris, and a trimmer for finishing edges along fences and pathways. Then there is Apollo, a multi-functional AI yard robot that performs much the same range of tasks. Now joining this multi-functional lawn-care robot bandwagon is Chinese startup RoboBooster with its Panther, a four-season lawn-care robot.

Unlike Yarbo and Apollo, Panther does not cater to snow plowing and is tailored instead for grass trimming, leaf and grass collection, lawn striping, and pattern printing. Currently the subject of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, Panther is described by its makers as a “four-in-one multi-functional lawn care robot designed for medium to large home gardens.”

According to the company’s press release, the robot moves quietly through spaces of up to 4,000 square meters (2,000 square meters for basic-level models). It offers up to five hours of battery life. Furthermore, it comes equipped with a 4,000 RPM brushless motor that drives the blades, delivering enough torque to slice through thick, resilient grass with ease.

Navigation is where many robotic mowers fall short, particularly when asked to do more than trace a simple loop inside a buried wire. Panther bypasses the wire entirely, relying instead on LiDAR and high-resolution vision sensors to map a yard down to the centimeter.

“Unlike traditional RTK robotic mowers that can lose positioning under trees, roofs, or other signal-blocking obstacles, Panther is designed to maintain stable navigation in real home garden conditions,” the company states. This advanced sensor fusion system also enables one-button start and AI-powered obstacle avoidance, creating a smarter, more user-friendly mowing experience.

On slopes, the system builds its own picture of the space. It updates it as conditions change, handling complex garden layouts, sudden obstacles, and gradients of reportedly up to 85 percent, all made possible by a purpose-built all-wheel-drive drivetrain.

Like modern robotic mowers, Panther generates a real-time digital map of the lawn and plots the most efficient cutting routes. “With a one-button start, every pass is executed automatically with precision, delivering smooth, complete, and consistent mowing across your entire yard without any manual setup,” the company explains.

The cutting hardware is equally well considered. Dual high-speed cutting discs measure 340 mm and are designed to deliver clean, consistent results, even on thicker or more established grass.

Where most robotic mowers leave edges and corners for a follow-up session with a handheld trimmer, Panther tackles those, too. It also gathers clippings and fallen leaves rather than leaving them scattered across the lawn, one of those quality-of-life details that makes a surprisingly significant difference in day-to-day use.

Another USP of the Panther robotic lawn mower is the pattern printing. For homeowners who want professional diagonal stripes or a more custom design cut into their lawn, Panther handles that as well, all directed through a smartphone app that puts users in full control without requiring them to step outside.

“Choose your design in the app, and the mower follows precise paths to cut it into your lawn, even on slopes or uneven ground. You’ll see the pattern emerge exactly as you envisioned,” the company says.

Available in four variants, Panther AWD, Panther AWD H, Panther AWD Pro, and Panther AWD Pro H, the robot can be pre-ordered on Kickstarter. The Early Bird price for the Panther AWD Pro H is $1,500, representing a 40 percent discount off its retail price of $2,500.
