The Casa Eco house, built by Mexico-based architecture firm Sensacional Dinámica Mexicana, lets pre-existing rocky outcrops and vegetation decide its orientation and construction limits. The concrete building quietly sits between the edge of Sierra de San Miguelito and the urban city of San Luis Potosí. Enveloped by the rocky formations, the concrete house appears like a mere visitor in the vast, mountainous desert landscape.
The architecture firm began this residential project by taking down the wall separating the city from the plateau. Once they dismantled this wall, the plot opened up to natural terrain. The team let the desert wilderness decide the layout of the property they wanted to build. Instead of removing the massive rock boulders and outcrops, the team used pre-existing raw geology as a structural perimeter wall for the courtyard of Casa Eco.
They stacked the raw concrete volumes in an organized manner that resonates with the natural slope of the terrain. This concrete material mimics the surrounding rocks and the harsh desert landscape with its raw texture. These stacked volumes create different floors in the building. The lower floor, stacked above the garage and cellar, houses a spacious, light-filled living room, kitchen, and study.
One of the most interesting aspects of this project is the outdoor kitchen counter supported by a large natural rock boulder. This elongated kitchen counter stretches from the interior towards the outdoors through the glazed walls.

The other two upper floors include three bedrooms, two bathrooms with concrete walls, a dressing room, and a lounge room with a television. The pool in the courtyard adds a cool sensory element to its architecture, with the surrounding landscape forming a stunning backdrop.
The Casa Eco House is a remarkable example of becoming one with the natural landscape and preserving its organic heritage. The most intriguing part of this architecture project is how Sensacional Dinámica Mexicana used a pre-existing rock outcrop to structurally support one of its concrete walls and integrate it within its structure. Several cacti and trees around the property embrace it beautifully to enhance its biophilic architecture.
