Renowned British artist and designer Faye Toogood has once again breathed life into her minimal, sculptural designs through new furniture pieces. Consisting of seating and tables, the collection brings together pieces under the names Bone, Slump, and Roll, inspired by mudlarked bones and unearthed fossils.
The Bone lineup features a dining table and organically soft dining chairs. The dining table sits at the heart of the Bone collection, which features a soft and sculptural form. The asymmetrical dining table is hand-carved from solid oak with the top resting on four softly shaped legs. The four circular piercings on the top connect the legs in a Japanese-style joinery that doesn’t use tools. The tabletop also flaunts vertical grain of oak, evoking the oversized plugs used in ancient woodwork.
Bone dining chairs complete the dining set in either armless or with arms. The chairs stand on two solid legs featuring a curved, soft form. A timber frame sculpted with wool, coconut husk, and natural latex lies under the tactile exterior. Looking like bony structures, the chairs come in two colorways: white and a delicate blue.
Next in line are the Roll pieces that include two nightstands, one console table, and a cantilevered shelf, all featuring the same aesthetic. The pieces are created by UK-based woodworkers with a selection of oak, walnut, and ash.
Featuring drawers in both nightstands and the table, the finishes include golden oak, rich walnut, and ash stained in Chalk, Putty, or Malachite. The furniture is made using a combination of five-axis machining and handcrafting, and the woodgrain follows the curvature of each piece.
Following the designer’s signature chubby sculpturalism, the Slump chairs conclude the collection, featuring a bagel shape and becoming the softest in the collection. Available in two colors, the black one comes with angular steel legs and the white one with industrial-style wheels. For their making, four meters of leather were scrunched and cinched over a low-slung seat. Toogood calls these her most comfortable seats.
The Bone, Roll, Slump furniture pieces feature the designer’s sculptural approach, marrying contemporary aesthetics with organic yet soft forms.
