Bringing her signature chubby sculpturalism to the bedroom, Faye Toogood has collaborated with furniture company Poltrona Frau to create the Lie Low bed. Coming with a matching bedside table, the bed will be a highlight during Salone del Mobile this year. Described as a bed that entirely embraces you, it prioritizes comfort through its soft, enveloping form and high-end leather craftsmanship.

With the bed, Toogood focuses on creating a sanctuary-like feel where the furniture acts as a soft retreat from the world, moving away from rigid, formal structures. The craftsmanship is a study in informal luxury where Poltrona Frau’s rigid technical precision is intentionally relaxed to meet Toogood’s organic, sculptural vision.

In a departure from the brand’s traditional taut upholstery, the leather on the bed is allowed to crinkle and gather. With this technique, the folds look natural and supple rather than messy, providing a sense of motivation and malleability. Making the most of the company’s expertise in leather, the frame and the headboard are lightly padded with polyurethane foam and polyester wadding to create a soft-to-the-touch finish that hides the rigid internal structure.

According to Wallpaper, Toogood says, “I have been working with the artisans at Poltrona Frau for a couple of years now, and there’s nothing they don’t know about leather craft. I want to celebrate the hands-on knowledge and skill of the workshop, but propose new ways of thinking about process and material. Rather than being perfectly taut, the leather of the Lie Low bed is wrinkled, giving it movement and malleability. It’s a bed that entirely embraces you.”

The bed is defined by generous, rounded contours that mimic a pile of soft cushions. This chubby aesthetic replaces sharp angles with flowing lines. The design draws heavily from the 1970s interiors, referencing the decade’s penchant for bold, oversized, and slightly exuberant shapes.

Prioritizing sensory experience over formal geometry, the philosophy moves away from the bed as a rigid platform and towards the bed as a soft, protective sanctuary. The chubby, oversized proportions are a visual cue for safety and deep relaxation. Influenced by the British countryside and landscape, Toogood translates the bed into an organic silhouette that focuses on a sensual perspective, which prioritizes how the body interacts with the piece.
