A portable power station is a rechargeable battery-powered device designed to provide quiet and reliable electricity to household appliances and other electronics during power outages or in off-grid locations. They combine a rechargeable battery with multiple power outputs, offering an emission-free alternative to fuel-powered generators, while delivering reliable electricity for off-grid living and in emergency backup situations back home.

Among the latest options in this growing category is the FOSSiBOT F1800, a compact yet capable portable power station meant to deliver dependable backup electricity for home use, camping, RV travel, and other off-grid applications. It features a 1,024Wh battery capacity, an 1,800W continuous AC output, and a long-lasting LiFePO4 battery. Despite its substantial power output, the F1800 is a relatively compact and portable 1 kilowatt-hour unit.

Benefits of FOSSiBOT F1800 Portable Power Station

Compact and Lightweight for Enhanced Portability

A solution for maintaining power backup on essential electronics and appliances where and when required, the F1800 is engineered for maximum portability. Weighing 11.25 kg (24.8 lbs) and measuring 371 x 206 x 258 mm in size, its body is nearly 14 percent smaller than most competing power stations in the 1 kWh category.

The device’s compact, lightweight design makes it a competitive choice for van travelers and homeowners seeking reliable power in emergencies or otherwise. The portability is enhanced by its integrated carrying handles. Since it produces zero exhaust fumes, the power station can be used safely both indoors and inside RVs and tents.

Core Power and Dependable Battery

Engineered to offer 1,024Wh capacity with a steady 1,800W AC output, it can handle startup surges of up to 3,600W peak power, which is critical for devices with compressors and motors, such as refrigerators or power tools. The unit is itself powered by an automotive-grade LiFePO4 battery, considered essential for its safety and longevity. Though we cannot vouch for it without considerable testing ourselves, as the company markets, it is rated for 4,000+ charge cycles before dropping to 80 percent capacity. This can allow the battery to potentially last up to 10 years with regular use, it notes.

What really makes the built-in battery reliable for long-term usage is its AC efficiency of 96 percent and a low idle consumption of just 3 watts. This means that very little energy is wasted when the unit is powered on but not in use. Other user reviews highlight its ultra-fast AC charging, which reaches 80 percent in 45 minutes via a standard AC wall outlet, and its exceptionally quiet operation at approximately 30 decibels, while also appreciating its built-in UPS mode for seamless energy transitions during blackouts.

The device, we found, takes over an hour to charge to 100 percent from a regular socket, and with support for up to 500W solar input, it can charge up in under 2 hours. When the 1,024Wh input is not enough, FOSSiBOT ensures that you have an option to expand the power backup without much additional cost. Using 24V or 48V batteries, you can increase storage capacity conveniently.

What really stands out for us in the F1800 is the portable power backup system’s Eco and Dark Start modes. In Eco mode, the unit prioritizes renewable energy by using solar and battery power first. It only switches to the grid when the battery reaches the 10 percent threshold. By reducing grid consumption, Eco Mode can offer financial benefits. When paired with a 420W solar panel to run a camping fridge, the mode can save approximately 1kWh of electricity per day, a customer informed.

The Dark Start, on the other hand, ensures that when the battery shuts down, the F1800 automatically resumes electricity back to the connected devices upon regaining as little as 1 percent charge, whether it is from the grid or solar power; it doesn’t matter.

Connectivity, Convenience and Enhanced Safety

FOSSiBOT F1800 is equipped to power between 7 and 8 devices simultaneously, depending on the regional model and configuration. The US model we used featured three physical AC outlets, which provide a combined steady output of 1,800W (3,600W peak) for appliances such as refrigerators, computers, coffee makers, and other electronics.

The European model features 2 AC outlets. Onboard, you also get a pair of USB-C ports, 1 USB-A port, and 1 DC cigarette lighter port. Each USB-C port can output up to 140W individually for charging laptops and smartphones. We found that if both are used simultaneously, the output is limited to a total of 30W.

To make controlling the F1800 convenient, FOSSiBOT has provided a physical dial on the unit to let the user adjust charging power and toggle between modes. A built-in screen lets you monitor real-time data spanning 19 different parameters, including input/output power, fan status, and remaining runtime. Users who desire more flexibility can manage the portable power station controls from the FOSSiBOT App and monitor wattage, battery levels, and ports on the go.

The F1800, like the other portable power stations, is designed for seamless Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) function. It allows the device to switch to battery power in less than 10 milliseconds when a grid failure is detected. The transition is instant to ensure the connected sensitive electronics like your Wi-Fi router or a CPAP machine can continue running without resetting or shutting down.

Three Charging Gears

It may not be a direct advantage per se, but the F1800 lets users manually set or adjust the power output. This becomes useful when you want to customize the power depending on fast charging or gentle charging requirements for long-term battery health.

Users can choose between the three power levels: low 400W, medium 800W, and high 1200W, each with a different total recharge time for the 1,024Wh battery i.e., 2.75 hours, 1.5 hours, and 1.1 hours, respectively. The key design feature of the FOSSiBot F1800 is that it offers you two ways to manage these gears. Use the physical dial located on the unit itself or adjust the charging power remotely via the app over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
