Project 48: A line of variant ping pong tables with unique aesthetic flavors

Project 48

You can’t change the rules of a game, but you can certainly change the experience of playing of it. Adding new design twists to the venerable ping pong, Czech designers Petr Mikošek and Štěpán Kuklík have created the Project 48. This so called project entails a whole line differently crafted ping pong tables, all of which replace or add some new facet to the original rectangular form (with uniform support legs and a separating net at the middle).

For example, in the above image we can see the uniform legs being replaced by a duo of ‘avant-garde’ inverted triangles. This certainly creates a fascinating aesthetic flavor for the whole scope.

This image shows another design which totally traverses the scope of a net or transparent acrylic tunnel, and instead replaces it with a downward recess (with a triangular cross-section). This will allow the players to play through a more horizontal level, without the obstruction of the eminent net. The support is also replaced by tires stacked atop each other.

Now, the line of Project 48 is not just about bringing cosmetic changes to the table, but is also about changing the experience of playing it. In this regard, all of the conceptions are actually compact in their bearing. This makes it easier to accommodate them in internal spaces such as apartments and offices. Moreover, there a certain dash of technology incorporated within the ambit with laser sensors and projection mapping. They interact with your bouncing ping pong ball to gauge their trajectories.
