After successfully securing funding of $13 million, Southern California-based startup Aboard is now all set to mass-produce its first electric camper trailer. It is designed more like a modern electric vehicle that powers your campsite, supports travel functions, and serves as a living space. What makes it unique is a self-propelling battery system that eliminates range loss for the towing vehicle.
Aboard features its own built-in Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain, which means the trailer propels itself. This self-propulsion mechanism minimizes the strain on the tow vehicle, allowing the EV to maintain its normal battery range.
The Aboard T4 electric camper also uses a hybrid energy system with more than 200kWh of onboard power, combining a 41kWh LFP battery pack with a 60kW onboard generator to power appliances and onboard systems for extended off-grid living. Its generator can rapidly recharge the system from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes, allowing users to stay powered for days without long waits.
The trailer acts as a massive mobile battery bank for your EV. If your EV battery runs low in a remote area, Aboard’s integrated battery and generator setup can push power back into the tow vehicle. The trailer includes a 52-gallon fresh water tank, a 35-gallon grey water tank, and a 30-gallon black water tank to further support long-term off-grid stays.
Measuring 24 feet in length and weighing 6,500 lbs dry, the T4 camper trailer offers a net carrying capacity of 1,000 lbs. The reinforced body structure minimizes flex and vibration for a stable and comfortable experience. The vehicle-grade doors with advanced sealing and secure locking ensure improved insulation, durability, and weather protection.
The camper trailer also integrates several smart driving and maneuvering features, including a 360-degree surround-view camera system that enhances visibility around the trailer for easier reversing, parking, and lane changes. Additionally, advanced sensing technology continuously adapts to motion and load conditions to maintain stability and responsiveness on the road. It further employs an Electro-Mechanical Braking system that works in sync with the tow vehicle to provide a more controlled stopping performance.
On the inside, the Aboard travel trailer is designed for modern minimalist living. The floor plan is centered around a compact bathroom with a toilet and sink. What makes it special is that it can be accessed from two different doors.
Next to it is a modular galley kitchen equipped with an induction cooktop and sink. There is a U-shaped dinette to the front surrounding a wooden table that serves for dining or workspace, as well as converts into a sleeping area. The rear provides additional lounge seating that can also transition into the main bed. The design includes dual entry doors and large windows to maintain a spacious feel within a compact footprint.

This extended-range electric camper trailer is built using car-industry production techniques and offers vehicle-level towing and control during travel. Its metal body panels and doors are machine-stamped like in cars for a tighter fit.
Aboard directly competes with EV-focused startups like Lightship and Pebble, which offer pure electric, aerodynamic, and automated trailers. The main difference lies in the extended-range hybrid system and the fixed automotive-style body.
Production assembly of the Aboard T4 Electric Camper will kick off in Southern California later this year, while customer deliveries are slated for the 4th quarter of 2026 with a starting price of $80,000.
