There is a growing shift in the overland community, with people moving away from rigid builds toward multi-use vehicles. VanLab camper kits for Kia PV5, Bürstner Signature Series Class C motorhome, and Four Wheel Campers’ CampOut slide-in camper are but a few recent examples of this approach. Portland-based Adventure Wagon has been working on the same line for the last many years, and now they have introduced RUV (Recreational Utility Vehicle), which is a certified Class B RV platform suitable for van conversion enthusiasts who do not prefer a fixed interior layout.
Built on Adventure Wagon’s modular interior system, the RUV adapts to different situations. With modular seating, sleeping, storage, and gear systems, you can reconfigure it in a few minutes. It transforms from a mobile basecamp to a gear hauler to a daily driver easily. You can configure it to store bikes, skis, or moto setups, or swap between family seating and solo expedition mode without rebuilding the van.
Each camper van integrates sleep, power, cooking, heat, and sanitation features in a modular, upgradeable way. The core component is a structural A-frame and L-track foundation, allowing users to install, remove, and reposition components as per specific requirements.
Adventure Wagon has released its new Switchback modular product line to work with the company’s RVIA-compliant RUV platform. The lineup comprises a modular galley, 48V electrical system, and dual-purpose storage/toilet box. These interchangeable components allow you to build, use, and evolve a camper van over time.
The first module is The Switchback Galley, featuring removable, tool-free caddy systems. This means the kitchen is not fixed, and you can detach the Cook Caddy and Sink Caddy to place them outdoors, at camp tables, or wherever you want. The self-contained design includes integrated storage, adjustable feet for uneven terrain, and expandable workspace.
Next is the Switchback Storage/Toilet Box, designed as a dual-purpose modular unit. The box can function as general storage or accommodate a cassette toilet, all while maintaining full compatibility with the broader Switchback ecosystem. Its caddy-compatible countertop allows it to integrate directly with galley components.

Finally, the new Switchback Electrical System enables off-grid capability. Built around a 48V architecture, the system can run air conditioning as a standard feature. It has up to 10kVA capacity and comes with multiple charging options, including solar, alternator, shore power, and generator input.
It is the Switchback system that allows Adventure Wagon to create highly flexible van interiors that adapt to different scenarios over time. The kitchen module starts at $5,400, the storage box at $1,400, while the electrical system starts from $14,291. As for the RUV, its pricing starts around $135,000.
